Sakusa plays the violin.

In his opinioni, it’s nothing special, just something he does. Every single day, almost religiously, he sits in his chair at the window and plays. 

There is something soothing about the feeling of the strings against the pad of his fingers, of the polished wood under his chin.

It’s a moment of quiet. 

There is no place to think about his future, his life, his duties. 

It’s a moment of silence in the tumultuous ocean that his mind usually is. 

Every single day, even when every muscle on his body aches after a long day of practice or he's tired after a game, Sakusa sits at the window and plays his violin.

The first time Atsumu goes to his house, he notices the chair beside the window and the violin on top of it.

“Didn't know ya played, Omi-kun”

Sakusa shrugs his shoulder. 

“Will you make me hear something?”, Atsumu asks. 

Sakusa is taken aback, because it’s nothing special, it’s just something he does. Why would someone pay attention to that?

“No”, he answers. Because he doesn’t want his anxiety, his perfectionism, to reach that place too.

Atsumu never asks again.

When they go live together, Atsumu takes the habit to go out for some walks. Every night at the same hour.

It takes Sakusa a while to realize he’s doing that to leave him his hour of silence. Atsumu knows he needs it, even if Sakusa never said it out loud. 

Sakusa never thanks him, but when Atsumu comes back he always finds tea waiting for him. Iced, on summer days, steamy hot in the dark winter evenings. 

It’s been a few months since they started living together when Atsumu catches a cold. He can’t leave the house. 

He tries to convince Kyoomi to go somewhere else for a few day, just until he gets better, but Sakusa refuses. 

On the third day, when the time of his usual walks comes, Atsumu hears the violin playing in the living room. 

Something shifts in him. His heart clenches hearing the music. It’s the moment he realizes Sakusa made the final step to completely accept him in life as someone he doesn’t have to hide from. 

It took them three years, but Atsumu knows that now they’re there. They are, finally, completely, together.
